The basic responsibilities:
Help determine the organization's vision, mission and purpose, select the Executive Director, provide financial oversight, ensure adequate resources, ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability, ensure effective organizational planning, recruit and orient new board members, enhance the public understanding of Conservation Corps North Bay, monitor, and strengthen the organization's programs and services, and support the Executive Director, assessing his/her performance.

The legal responsibilities:
Execute our three duties faithfully. They are:

  1. The duty of loyalty is a standard of faithfulness; a board member must give undivided allegiance when making decisions affecting Conservation Corps North Bay. A Board member can never use information obtained as a member for personal gain.
  2. The duty of obedience requires Board members to be faithful to the mission of Conservation Corps North Bay. This rule lies in the public trust that the organization will manage donated funds to fulfill the organization's mission.
  3. The duty of care is the duty of care that an ordinarily prudent person would exercise in a like position and under similar circumstances. A Board member owes the duty to exercise reasonable care when he/she makes a decision as a steward of Conservation Corps North Bay.

Your mission (should you choose to accept):

  • Be informed about the organization's mission, services, policies, and programs.
  • Keep up-to-date on developments related to the mission and work of Conservation Corps North Bay.
  • Participate in making and reviewing strategic plans and setting long-term priorities.
  • Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
  • Attend board and committee meetings and functions.
  • Serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments.
  • Inform others about Conservation Corps North Bay.
  • Make an annual personal financial contribution to Conservation Corps North Bay.
  • Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as approving an annual budget and reviewing the organization's financial statements and audit.
  • Suggest board member nominees who will substantially support Conservation Corps North Bay in advancing its mission.
  • Help Conservation Corps North Bay understand and reach diverse communities.
  • Contribute expertise in particular areas of nonprofit management, governance, finance, or other areas that advance Conservation Corps North Bay's mission and strategy.
  • Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies.
  • Refrain from making special requests of the staff.

Requirements: Must be 18 years and older. No experience necessary. Training will be provided.
