Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden – just the FAQs.
What is the Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden Program?
The Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden Program is a job training and education program that provides a unique opportunity to earn valuable sustainable farming skills while also completing an educational program at College of Marin's Indian Valley Campus. Corpsmembers may be eligible to earn education awards to apply to college.
IVC corpsmembers learn valuable job skills to prepare them for the job market upon completion of the program. They are also trained to gain leadership skills and can even be promoted into leadership positions during their time in the program. We focus not only on the work at hand, but on the lifelong positive impact it can have on their future endeavors.
What do Farm corpsmembers do?
The Organic Farm & Garden will provide CCNB's corpsmembers with valuable year-round field study, job training, and education to obtain jobs in Marin's fastest growing green jobs sectors. IVC corpsmembers will be responsible for maintaining the garden infrastructure and completing local watershed and creek restoration projects. The work is hard and physical, but the rewards are great.
What do Farm corpsmembers receive?
Corpsmembers work 20 hours week for an hourly wage that is competitive with other job training programs. Corpsmembers must be enrolled in College of Marin and have a minimum of six units to participate in the program. In addition, eligible corpsmembers can earn education awards that can amount to $5,350 after one year of participation in the program. We provide corpsmembers with a uniform and safety gear and there are additional incentives for those who show a commitment through taking on various leadership roles and for perfect attendance. In addition, corpsmembers benefit from two years of support in developing job skills through our Corps-to-Career program.
